About Our Foundation

Founded in 2015, Leon Kendrick Youth Arts Academy operates from the East Chicago Visual and Performing Arts Academy, offering arts education and performance opportunities for youth in grades K-12. We are dedicated to expanding access to the arts by providing free and affordable performances and cultural events for the community.

Our Program

Visual Art

Our Visual Arts program develops technical skill, creative thinking, and visual literacy. Students explore foundational and advanced techniques while learning how to communicate ideas through artistic expression.

Theater & Performance

Our Theater program builds confidence, discipline, and stage presence through structured performance training. Students learn the craft of acting while developing collaboration and leadership skills.

Music & Vocal Training

The Music & Vocal program cultivates musical excellence and artistic expression. Students develop technical proficiency while learning the discipline required for ensemble performance.

Dance & Movement

Our Dance & Movement program strengthens the body, sharpens coordination, and nurtures expressive storytelling through movement.
